Cardiopulmonary effects of partial pulmonary arterial obstruction in dogs.

چکیده
Major obstruction to pulmonary artery blood flow such as occurs in massive pulmonary embolism is usually accompanied by a sharp decline in arterial blood oxygen tension. This phenomenon has long been recognized, and over 25 years ago Mendlowitz suggested that it was due to a decrease in the permeability of the alveolar-capillary membrane to oxygen transfer." Later Turino and his associates stated that the actual diffusing capacity was not affected appreciably unless the blood flow declined by over 50 per cent.2 Searching for factors other than diffusing capacity, we chose to study the hypoxemia subsequent to diminished pulmonary blood flow by experimentally reducing the flow to a moderate degree, sufficient to produce hypoxemia but not sufficient to produce shock.

Effects of cardiopulmonary bypass on lung nuclear factor-kappa B activity, cytokine release, and pulmonary function in dogs
Objective(s): To study the effect of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) on nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-кB) and cytokine expression and pulmonary function in dogs. Materials and Methods: Twelve male mongrel dogs were divided into a methylprednisolone group (group M) and a control group (group C). All animals underwent aortic and right atrial catheterization under general anesthesia. Changes in pulmonar...
متن کاملCardiopulmonary effects of a single oral dose of almitrine at rest and on exercise in patients with hypoxic chronic airflow obstruction.
Almitrine, a new triazine derivative, was studied in a double-blind, randomized, parallel study in 16 patients with hypoxic chronic airflow obstruction (eight almitrine and eight placebo). At rest, compared to placebo, a 3 mg/kg single dose of almitrine given orally significantly increased the partial pressure of oxygen (mean increase: +12.0 +/- SEM 2.1 mm Hg, p less than 0.001) and decreased t...
متن کاملCorrelation Between Upper Airways Obstructive Indexes in Adenotonsilar Hypertrophy with Mean Pulmonary Arterial Pressure
Introduction: Hypertrophied tonsils and adenoids may cause upper airway obstruction and cardio-pulmonary complications due to pulmonary arterial hypertension. The aim of this study was to determine the correlation between mean pulmonary arterial pressure (mPAP) and selected adenotonsilar hypertrophy indexes. Materials and Methods: Thirty two patients with upper-airway obstruction resulting ...
متن کاملArterial blood gas anomaly in canine hepatobiliary disease
Arterial blood gas analysis is an important diagnostic and monitoring tool for respiratory abnormalities. In human medicine, lung complications often occur as a result of liver disease. Although pulmonary complications of liver disease have not been reported in dogs, we have frequently encountered hypoxemia in dogs with liver disorders, especially extrahepatic biliary obstruction. In addition, ...
متن کاملMechanical vs. reflex effects of diffuse pulmonary embolism in anesthetized dogs.
The effects of repeated pulmonary embolisms with glass spheres on systemic and right intracavitary pressures and on arterial oxygen saturation of anesthetized dogs are described. The results of studies of intact dogs and of the isolated perfused left lower lobe indicate that the hemodynamic effects were due to mechanical obstruction to the flow of blood through the lungs eventually followed by ...
